Overview

You can perform a number of customizations for your instance of the application. The customizations affect only your instance and if you install a product upgrade, your customizations are preserved. In order to perform these tasks, you must be logged in with an administrative login with the appropriate privileges.

Changing Field Labels

A field label is the field identifier, also referred to as a field tag. You can change the label on any field in the system. For example, you may want to change field labels to a different language.

  1. Right-click on the label you want to change. A menu displays.
  2. image:UI_personalize label.gif

  3. Select Personalize Label. A form displays that describes the attributes of this field.
  4. image:UI_field label.gif

  5. In the Label field, enter the label you want to use.
  6. Click Update.

Warning • Do not modify the Table or Element fields.

Adding Field-Level Hints

You can add field level hints that display when the user hovers over the field label. Note that some fields may already have hints attached.

  1. Right-click on the label to which you want to add a hint. A menu displays (see above).
  2. Select Personalize Label. A form displays that describes the attributes of this field (see above).
  3. In the Hint field, enter the hint you want to display.
  4. Click Update.

Warning • Do not modify the Table or Element fields.

Adding Field-Level Help Links

You can add field level help links that display a web or wiki page when the user clicks on the field label. Note that some fields may already have help links attached.

  1. Right-click on the label of the field to which you want to add a help link.
  2. Select Personalize Label.
  3. In the URL field, enter the full URL for the help content.
  4. Click Update.
  5. Hover the mouse cursor over the field label and it appears underlined, indicating it is a link.
  6. To open the help page in a new browser tab, CTRL-Click the link. If you click the link without also clicking CTRL, the help page replaces the current page; in this case, click the browser's back arrow to return.

Enabling/Disabling Tabs

The application you are using may have more than one section in a given module. The sections might be shown in separate tabs, as shown in this example:

Or, the sections might be displayed on a single continuous screen, separated by a heavy black line, as shown in this example:

Based on your own preference, you can enable or disable tabs for your instance, as described below:

  1. Log in as an administrative user that has the appropriate permissions. Contact your administrator for assistance.
  2. From the navigation pane, select System Properties > UI Properties. This user interface displays a number of configurable system properties.
  3. Scroll down until you reach "Tabs on all sections or related lists," as shown:
  4. image:UI enable tabs.gif

  5. Click Yes to enable tabs or unclick Yes to disable tabs.
  6. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click Save. Your change takes effect next time you access a form.

Customizing the World Clock

The World Clock is a graphical display of clocks that show the time for selected cities. When you build home pages and dashboards, you might choose to include a World Clock. The default World Clock includes clocks for four cities: San Diego, New York, London, and Kiev, as shown below.

These instructions explain how to change, delete, or add cities. You need administrator privileges to perform this procedure. You will also need the GMT offset for the city you want to add (search for "GMT offset" in your favorite search engine). A GMT offset is a numeric representation of a timezone, expressed in relation to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). For example, New York is -4; London is +1.

  1. Login as an administrator.
  2. From the navigation pane, select System UI > UI Pages. The system displays a list of UI Pages.
  3. To locate the world clock page, type example_cool_clock in the search field and click the Search icon, or select Edit > Find in this Page from the browser menu and type clock into the Find field. The system jumps to the "example cool clock" record.
  4. image:ui example cool clock.gif

  5. Click on the name to open it.
  6. image:ui cool clock contents.gif

  7. The html table contains the four default cities, each row specifying a city. To add a new city:
    1. Copy and paste the second row.
    2. The "canvas id=xN" specifies the order of display. Modify the numbers so that they run 1 to 5, as shown in the example below.
    3. Enter the GMT offset for the city you are adding. In the example shown below, a clock for Chicago has been added, which has a GMT offset of -5.
    4. Enter the name of the city.
    5. image:ui world clock with chicago.gif

To delete a city, remove the entire line that defines that city.

  8. To display a preview of your changes, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click Try It. To return to the UI Pages module, click the browser's back key.
  9. To save your changes, click Update. If you are displaying the World Clock in your home page or dashboard, you will see your changes immediately.
